MTC and LEO are paving the way towards a green revolution in the Namibian telecoms industry after successfully substituting diesel generators that power cell site infrastructure used to carry mobile phone traffic by trialing the PowerCube.

Diverse Energy wins Prestigious Rushlight Award
Diverse Energy won the overall Rushlight Award for Clean Technologies at the Rushlight Awards 2011, one of the UK’s premier awards for cleantech. Diverse also took the Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Award.

THE FIRST POWERCUBE™ ARRIVES IN AFRICA
Ainra, the first PowerCube ™ sent to Johannesburg, South Africa arrived on 22nd November 2010.
Ainra translates as “Eternal Power” in Swahili
Afrox have given permission for the PowerCube™ to remain on their site in Johannesburg to allow potential customers to view the machine.
Rob Priest is seconded to South Africa to manage the project.
Ainra has been restarted in Johannesburg after the Christmas break and we are currently scheduling
customer visits to see the technology in action.
DIVERSE ENERGY RECEIVES £2M INVESTMENT FROM OCTOPUS INVESTMENTS LTD
Octopus Investments today announced that it has provided Diverse Energy with a £2M investment to fund the company’s ambitious roll-out of emission-free, low-cost power solutions for rural telecommunications and its transition to a fully commercial manufacturing organization.

POWERCUBE "AINRA" LEAVES FOR AFRICA
Diverse Energy today announced that the PowerCube "Ainra," an 8th-generation, fully commercial BTS power plant fuelled by anhydrous ammonia, was shipped from the UK for field trials in sub-Saharan Africa. 15 additional PowerCubes will be shipped to Africa under the TSB-funded "Ammonia for Power" grant to prove the viability of the system in all regional climates and familiarize Mobile Network Operators with the technology.
POWERCUBE "AINRA" IS NAMED IN PREPARATION FOR AFRICAN DEPLOYMENT
The first of 17 PowerCubes to be assembled and deployed under a UK Technology Strategy Board (TSB) "Ammonia for Power" (A4P) grant programme was today officially named at the Diverse Energy facility in Slinfold. TSB Project Officer Christine Foster named the PowerCube "Ainra"—meaning "Lasting Power" in Swahili—at a ceremony including the Diverse Energy team and board of directors.
The second PowerCube funded under the programme and used for local testing was dubbed "Bakira", which meas “One with Great Promise" by the Diverse Energy team and A4P partners Leading Light Software Services and Balton CP.The TSB is an executive non-departmental public body established by the UK Government in 2007 to promote, support, and invest in technology research, development and commercialisation in an effort to boost UK growth and productivity.
DIVERSE ENERGY IN NEGOTIATIONS WITH EUROPEAN COMMISSION FOR €8.19M PROJECT
A consortium of partners led by Diverse Energy has entered into negotiations with the EU Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) for a PowerCube manufacturing project totalling in excess of 8 million Euros. The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) is a unique public private partnership supporting research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe. The FCH JU has indicated preliminary support and a potential contribution of over 3 million Euros for a Grant Agreement on the proposal entitled “Ammonia based, fuel cell power for off-grid cell phone towers.” Along with Diverse Energy, the consortium of partners includes Linde Gas (Afrox), NedStack, Balton CP, CPI, Leading Light, and WaterstofNet. In addition to demonstrating commercial readiness through the building of a PowerCube assembly process, the consortium will build and deploy 44 PowerCubes in Europe, UK and Africa.
AFROX ANNOUNCES POWERCUBE FIELD TRIALS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Diverse Energy partner Afrox today announced that PowerCube field trials will begin across three regions in sub-Saharan Africa later this year. "The science could revolutionise the alternative energy solutions market in the telecommunications industry worldwide," said Robert Carlton-Shields, Afrox business manager for special products and chemicals. POWERCUBE COMPLETES PHASE II MOTOROLA TRIALS; APPROVED FOR DEPLOYMENT
Diverse Energy today announced that the PowerCube has completed a second phase of Motorola trials conducted at Diverse Energy’s Slinfold facility, with results exceeding the required specifications. On the basis of these results, Motorola has "approved" the PowerCube for deployment at BTS sites in conjunction with their radio equipment..
AFROX AND DIVERSE COMPLETE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Afrox Oxygen Limited (Afrox), a member of the Linde Group and the largest ammonia supplier in sub-Saharan Africa, today signed an MOU with Diverse Energy which outlines how the companies will collaborate in the use of anhydrous ammonia as a fuel to support the large-scale commercial deployment of PowerCubes. According to Dr. Alastair Livesey, "This represents a major step forward in our commercialization efforts and is historic in that we are truly breaking the ‘chicken-and-egg’ fueling dilemma that has plagued fuel cell deployment for decades." MAP CONSULTANTS COMPLETE SUB-SAHARAN AMMONIA INFRASTRUCTURE STUDY
A "Multidisciplinary Action Project" (MAP) team from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan today completed a detailed ammonia infrastructure study for Diverse Energy and Afrox Oxygen Limited (Afrox), a member of the Linde Group and the largest industrial gases and welding company in sub-Saharan Africa.
The study verified and documented that the existing Afrox ammonia distribution chain has the excess capacity necessary to support initial sales of PowerCubes, and also identified PowerCube deployment "break points" on a country-by-country basis when additional ammonia infrastructure investment will be needed. The study also provided external verification that the PowerCube represents a disruptive, fast growing, and highly profitable business opportunity for Afrox. DR. ALASTAIR LIVESEY NAMED DIVERSE ENERGY MANAGING DIRECTOR
Diverse Energy today announced that Dr. Alastair Livesey, the company’s Operations Director since 2007, will lead Diverse Energy as Managing Director. Former Managing Director Trevor Clarke will continue with the company as Chairman. Dr. Livesey is an expert in fuel cell technology and international business with over 22 years of business and technical experience in alternative and conventional energy. Before joining Diverse Energy, Dr. Livesey served in senior positions at Energy Conversion Devices and Shell, working to commercialize hydrogen storage and fuel cell technologies, establishing Shell Hydrogen, and managing Shell’s alternative energy research. Dr. Livesey holds a PhD in Physics and Materials Science from Cambridge University.
DR. MIKE RENDALL NAMED DIVERSE ENERGY CTO
Diverse Energy today announced that Dr. Mike Rendall, a global expert in fuel cell technologies, fuel reformation, and physical chemistry, has joined Diverse Energy as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Rendall was formerly the Chief Chemist and Development Engineer at fuel cell manufacturer Voller Energy PLC, where he was instrumental in the development and integration of a propane reformer into the Voller flagship 2kW Emerald fuel cell system. Dr. Alastair Livesey stated, "We’re very glad to have Mike joining as a key member of our executive team. He’ll be assuming leadership of our ongoing Design for Manufacture program, as well as all modeling and testing processes in the company, including quality control." DIVERSE ENERGY CONSORTIUM WINS POWERCUBE DEMONSTRATION GRANT
Diverse Energy has won a second grant this month, with a £648,185 match from the UK Technology Strategy Board for an "Ammonia for Power" (A4P) demonstration of its PowerCube distributed power units. Joining Diverse Energy in the project are Leading Light Software Services, and Balton CP, and the Centre for Process Innovation Teesside, which will together provide grant funding and in-kind support totaling approximately £1.64 million to demonstrate the world’s first use of ammonia as a low-carbon hydrogen carrier to power continuously running, distributed fuel cell power generation products in a major field trial. International ammonia market intelligence monitor FMB Group today featured Diverse Energy in its "FMB Weekly Ammonia Report," highlighting the company’s novel use of ammonia as a fuel source. Over 100 million metrics tons of ammonia are consumed annually, primarily as fertilizer. 2.4 million metric tons of ammonia would be required if all existing off grid cellular phone towers were converted from diesel generators to PowerCubes. DIVERSE ENERGY AWARDED £100,000 R&D GRANT
Diverse Energy has won a £100,000 research and development grant from One North East to further improve the proprietary anhydrous ammonia cracker technology used in the PowerCube. The grant runs for 6 months to July 2009 and will be used to improve cracker system efficiency and suitability for use with high-power fuel cell systems. One North East is a Regional Development Agency with responsibility for promoting sustainable economic development and technology innovation. Diverse Energy is working in partnership with the Centre for Process Innovation Ltd and Enterprise Europe Network North East in executing portions of the programme.

CAIRNEAGLE STUDY FINDS POWERCUBE OUTPERFORMS ALTERNATIVES
UK-based independent consultancy Cairneagle Associates completed a study last month verifying that in many off-grid situations, the PowerCube economically outperforms traditional diesel generator solutions. The study further reported that the PowerCube delivers better financial returns than solar/wind in almost all situations where these generation sources are viable.
